Boarding schools are better than day schools

Undoubtedly, the initial separation from parents when enrolling at a boarding school, especially if it is far away from home or in a different country, can be challenging for children. However, it is noteworthy that they often adjust to being away from home relatively quickly. In fact, the boarding school environment facilitates the formation of new friendships as students spend significantly more time with their classmates than they would in a day school setting.

Becoming independent and responsible

Without their parents to care for their uniforms before school, they also learn to make sure they are properly dressed and always have a clean school uniform prepared for the next day. Students also learn to take personal responsibility for themselves even when they have no supervision at all.

Developing Interpersonal skills

Students in boarding don’t just have to manage their own affairs, they have to learn how to live and deal with other people. They also learn to tolerate others’ opinions and views without asking third parties for support.

Developing ability to Resolve Conflict

The absence of parents also helps the children in learning to resolve conflicts for themselves.

Self-Discipline & Time Management skills

Due to the schools’ set times for meals, the students also learn a certain self-discipline and good time management skills.

Balanced and healthy nutrition

Boarding students have all their meals at school. Students have no time for unhealthy snacking.

Fewer Distractions

Boarding school students can focus better on their studies because television, video games, phones, and other distractions are limited. These young scholars usually perform better academically because they live in an environment that is conducive to learning.

Academic Rigour

Boarding schools make for a more intense academic life. There is more time that can devote to learning as students remain on campus for extended periods, with many teachers also residing within or nearby.

Learning Focus

Without the distractions of home computers, gaming, and television, students feel more engaged and secure in a boarding school environment where intellectual stimulation is quite high.

Peer Learning

In a boarding school setting, you live, play, study, and socialize among your peers.

According to a study conducted by The Association of Boarding Schools (TABS), 78% of boarding students reported being motivated by their peers, a number significantly higher than the 49% of public school students. When you live and learn together in a community, you motivate and grow together, too.

Smaller Class Sizes

Boarding schools tend to have much smaller classrooms. This means teachers can pay greater attention to the needs and performance of individual students, helping them to discover their strengths and weaknesses.

Structured life

An important part of growing up is learning how to structure your time. At a boarding school, the day has a structure, with regulated wake-up times, sleeping and eating times. This has to fit into the academic timetable, with its slots for lessons, homework, activities and leisure time. Even weekends have their own pattern of mealtimes and scheduled activities. This helps students learn to live a balanced and structured life.

Personal Growth

Living away from home and residing on campus, provides invaluable opportunities for personal growth. Boarding school students tend to develop life skills such as time management, work ethic, and independence in an faster manner than a day school student.

A Learning-Conducive Atmosphere

A boarding school is a hub for learning. This includes facilities like performing arts spaces, science labs, athletic fields and courts, and more. Therefore boarding school students find themselves with abundant opportunities to learn and grow.

Social Maturity

At boarding school, students learn valuable life lessons about connection and conflict. As a result, they're often more socially prepared and ready to embrace a world full of different people with contrasting points of view.

Lifelong Friendships/Networking

Ask anyone what they like most about being a boarding student, and the answer is likely to be – my friends! Boarding students eat together, live together, and celebrate successes together. They create fond memories of evenings and weekends in each other’s company.

Extracurricular activities

At boarding school, free time is filled with options like playing games like chess, reading in library, creative time in art room, attending workshops etc. These extracurricular activities help students stay active.

Fun weekend

Boarding life at weekends often means fun trips with your friends

Appreciation towards Cultural Diversity

Boarding school students live and attend classes with people from a variety of cultures; therefore, they learn to appreciate and respect the differences in one another and live amicably. Some may even learn the basics of another language as a result of the friendships they form.

Convenience

Boarding school means no morning or after-school commute for parents and students. There is more time that can be devoted to studying and co-curricular activities in a safe and controlled environment.

Life around nature

Most boarding schools are surrounded by nature and secluded from the noise and pollution of big cities. For students it means both cognitive benefits and improvements in mood, mental health and emotional well-being.

Meaningful Reunion

Absence makes the heart grow fonder! The joy that students and their families feel at being reunited over holiday periods is strong. This strengthens family bonds in spite of the separation.
